This is one of the older and better established crypto gambling sites, with a perfect record of delivering secure payouts to customers from around the world. The odds are excellent, so we were impressed by the overall quality of this World Cup betting site.

2022 World Cup Betting Options at FortuneJack: 5/5

There are too many betting options to list, but suffice to say, you will find an enormous selection at your disposal. It would be great to see more sections and sub-sections to break them up, as a lot of scrolling is required to find less popular markets. • Website: Thunderpick.com
  • Payout time: Same day
  • Established: 2016
  • License: Gaming Curaçao
  • Headquarters: Curaçao

Our Verdict: 3.8/5

Thunderpick is an esports betting specialist that offers an exciting welcome bonus, quick crypto withdrawals and a stylish interface. It was created by a pair of Polish entrepreneurs at the start of the 2016-2017 crypto bull run. Thunderpick started out by offering pari-mutuel esports wagers, before adding fixed-odds markets, followed by an online casino and then a traditional sportsbook.

Thunderpick review

It offers a far narrower selection of 2022 World Cup betting options than FortuneJack, with around 40 markets per game. Thunderpick is a simple, attractive site, with decent soccer betting odds, but it would be great to see a broader choice of markets.

2022 World Cup Betting Options at Thunderpick: 2.9/5

10. SportsBetting.ag – Great sportsbook for high-stakes World Cup bettors

SportsBetting.ag facts:

  • Website: SportsBetting.ag
  • Payout time: Same day
  • Established: Founded in 1991, relaunched online in 2000
  • License: Holds a license from the government of Costa Rica
  • Headquarters: Costa Rica

Our Verdict: 3.8/5

SportsBetting.ag and BetOnline are sister sites. They are identical in almost every way, as they offer the same lines, odds, betting bonuses, payment options, withdrawal processes and customer service. The only difference is in the actual software.

SportsBetting.ag

A couple of years ago, they looked identical, but BetOnline was given a major facelift, with new software creating a user-friendly, stylish experience. SportsBetting.ag still uses the old platform, which is now very dated, especially compared to newer, slicker sites like BC.Game and Cloudbet. As such, we marked it down and put it in a No. 10 in our list, but it still excels in terms of betting options, odds and bonuses.

How World Cup Betting Works

World Cup betting odds are normally presented in one of three main formats, depending on where you are in the world: American odds, fractional odds or decimal odds. This is an example of American odds laid out on a World Cup betting site:

The odds tell you the profit you would earn by placing a successful bet. We have broken down all three formats to explain how to read World Cup odds.

American Odds

American World Cup odds start with a minus sign or a plus sign, as you can see in the image above. If the odds begin with the minus symbol, the numbers tell you how much you would need to bet to win $100. For example, odds of -205 on Brazil tell you that a $205 bet is required to win $100. Odds of -106 on over 2.5/3 goals tells you a $106 bet is required to win $100.

If the World Cup betting odds start with a plus, the numbers tell you the profit available on a $100 bet. For example, a $100 bet on Serbia would win $625. You get your bet amount back too on winning bets, so your return would be $725.

The numbers are just a guide, so you can choose any bet amount you like. For instance, a $10 bet on Serbia would result in a $62.50 profit and a total return of $72.50 if they won the game.

Fractional Odds

Fractional odds are similar to American odds, because they tell you the profit you would earn by placing a certain bet. You just multiply your bet amount by the fraction displayed to work out your profit. For example, you might find England priced at 1/3 to beat Iran. If you were to bet $100 on them, you would receive $33.33 in profit and a $133.33 total return.

By contrast, Iran might be the 4/1 underdogs. A $100 bet on them would result in a $400 profit, as $100 x 4/1 = $400. As always, you get your bet amount – known as your stake – back when you win, leaving a total return of $500.

Decimal Odds

Decimal odds are the easiest to read. They tell you the total return you can expect from a winning bet, which includes your profit and the return of your stake. Just multiply your stake by the decimal figure. For example, a $100 bet on Iran to beat England at 5.00 would return $500, so 5.00 is equivalent to fractional odds of 4/1 or American odds of +400.

Popular Types of World Cup Bets & Markets

World Cup bets can be broadly divided into three groups: pre-game betting; in-play betting; futures betting; and parlays, which are also known as accumulators, accas or multis in other parts of the world. Read on to learn more about each type.

Game Betting

Moneyline

This is the simplest option, as you just need to predict which team will win. There are three potential outcomes – either team could win, or it could result in a draw (tie). The sportsbooks release odds on each possible outcome to reflect the perceived likelihood of it landing. You just pick one and place your bet.

If you are betting on a game taking place in the knockout stage of the World Cup, your bet will be settled after 90 minutes of regulation time (including injury-time). It does not include extra-time and penalties. If you want to get paid out if the team wins in regulation time, extra-time or penalties, bet on that team “to qualify” for the next round or “to advance” to the next round. If it is the final, just bet on them to win the World Cup.

Example:

Team Odds
South Korea +435
Draw +270
Germany -160

2-Way Moneyline

The 2-way moneyline is normally referred to as draw no bet. If the game ends in a draw after 90 minutes (plus injury time), it would result in a push – known as a void in other parts of the world – and you will get your money back.

Example:

Team Odds
Mexico Draw No Bet -125
Poland Draw No Bet -105

Spread or Handicap Betting

This market allows you to give a team a goals handicap to earn better odds on them. For example, if France is the heavy favorite to beat Australia, you will not receive a particularly large payout if you place a successful bet on Les Bleus. A larger payout will be offered if you bet on France -1.5, meaning they need to win by 2 or more goals. You can alternatively bet on Australia +1.5, or check out a range of alternative handicap lines.

Example:

Team Odds
France -1.5 -110
Australia +1.5 -110

Asian Handicap Betting

Asian handicap markets give you more options, as they can result in a push (void), a half-win or a half-loss. For example, betting on Brazil -1.25 against Serbia gives you a full payout if they win by 2 or more goals and a half-loss if they win by a single goal. Betting on Serbia +1.25 gives you a half-win if they only lose by a single goal and a full win if they draw or win the game.

Example:

Team Odds
Brazil -1.25 -110
Serbia +1.25 -110

Over / Under Betting

You can bet over / under on goals, corners, cards, shots and various other markets on a World Cup game. The bookies set a total line, and you just bet on over or under. You can combine these bets with moneylines for useful same game parlays, such as Ecuador to beat Qatar and under 3.5 goals in the game.

Example:

Team Odds
Over 2.5 Goals -110
Under 2.5 Goals -110

Prop Bets

Prop bets cover a wide variety of markets that are not linked to the result. They are known as prop bets in America, but they have different names around the world, such as specials. They include player markets such as to score first, last or at any time, and game markets, like the highest scoring half.

Example:

Player Odds
Harry Kane to Score First +280
Raheem Sterling to Score First +400
Bukayo Saka to Score First +500

Futures

These are long-term bets that do not focus on a single World Cup game. These are your main futures 2022 World Cup betting options:

Tournament Winner

This is a bet on the overall winner of the tournament. The market starts with the favorite (Brazil) and goes all the way down to the huge underdogs, such as Qatar and Costa Rica. You can also bet each-way, which earns you a half-win if your chosen team loses in the final.

Example:

Player Odds
Brazil +500
England +600
France +600

Golden Boot

This is a prediction on which player will score the most goals at the World Cup. Each-way betting is available on this market too, and you can often get a quarter-win if your chosen player finishes second, third or fourth in the goalscoring charts.

Example:

Team Odds
Harry Kane +750
Kylian Mbappé +750
Lionel Messi +1200

To Reach the Final / Stage of Elimination

You can bet on a team to reach the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-final or the final, and you can also bet on which specific stage a team will be eliminated in. For instance, Mexico has been eliminated in the Round of 16 at the last seven World Cups, so that may be an interesting option.

Example:

Tea Odds
Brazil to reach the final +250
Argentina to reach the final +300
France to reach the final +300

Parlays

Parlays – also known as accumulators or multis – combine two or more predictions on separate World Cup games to form a single bet. For example, you might like:

  • Croatia to beat Morocco (+110)
  • Germany -1.5 vs. Japan (+120)
  • Belgium vs. Canada – over 2.5 goals (-110)

You could be $10 on each game if you have a $30 bankroll. If all three predictions are correct, you will earn a profit of $32.09. Alternatively, you might roll them all into a three-leg parlay. In that case, if all three win, you would earn a profit of $234.60 from a $30 bet.

That is due to the compounding nature of parlays. The money you win on each correct leg carries over to the next leg, so profits can be large. However, the bet will fail if just one leg loses, so it is a difficult wager to land.

Live Betting

Live betting simply means you can continue wagering on a World Cup game after it has started. Markets such as moneylines, handicap spreads, total goals, goalscorer markets and so on are updated continually to reflect the action on the pitch, so you can make informed betting decisions based on the evidence in front of you on the screen.

Bonuses Available at World Cup Betting Sites

World Cup betting sites offer a range of great promotions and bonuses to bring in new users and reward existing customers for regular play. These are the top 2022 World Cup betting bonuses to look out for:

Match Deposit Bonuses

The sportsbook agrees to match your initial deposit with bonus funds. Look out for the minimum deposit required to qualify, the maximum you can receive in bonus funds and the percentage of your deposit that will be matched.

For example, BetOnline offers a 50% deposit match up to $1,000 if you use a fiat-based payment method or a 100% deposit match up to $1,000 on crypto deposits for all new customers. You then need to roll your bonus funds over a certain number of times before the World Cup betting site will allow you to withdraw them.

No Deposit Bonuses

Occasionally, a betting site may offer you bonus credits as an incentive to sign up, and you will not be required to deposit any of your own funds to receive them. This is, therefore, referred to as a no deposit bonus. You will need to complete a rollover requirement on the bonus credits, which is generally a high requirement, but it gives you a chance to test out the site for free.

Free Bets

Free bets allow you to place World Cup wagers with house money. Some sites simply award you a free bet on certain occasions, whereas others require you to make a specific wager to qualify – such as bet $25 to get a $10 free bet. Check the terms to see if winnings from the free bet are paid in cash, or paid as bonus funds with a rollover requirement.

Enhanced Odds

Odds boosts allow you to place a bet on a World Cup at an inflated price. They are normally linked to special prop bets or same game combinations (same game parlays), such as the USA to win and Timothy Weah to score, boosted from +700 to +800.

Parlay Boost

Some sportsbooks agree to boost the profits you earn on winning parlays. The size of the boost available is normally determined by the number of legs you add. For example, you may get a 10% profit boost on a four-leg parlay, a 20% boost on a five-leg parlay and so on. There are normally minimum odds restrictions on each leg and on the overall bet.

2022 World Cup Betting Odds – The Favorites

Brazil is the outright favorite for glory heading into the World Cup, followed by Argentina. Both teams were unbeaten during South American qualifying, and they both boast formidable squads. However, the next eight teams hail from Europe, and European teams dominated the last World Cup.

Our Top 5 World Cup Betting Tips

Our top World Cup betting tips can boost your chances of a successful tournament:

1. Consider a Range of Betting Options

Make sure you consider the full array of World Cup betting options at your disposal. For example, instead of simply betting on a heavy favorite to win, you can bet on the team to win to nil, to win half-time/full-time or to win & over 1.5 goals in the game. It is often prudent to avoid the moneyline markets entirely and focus on both teams to score or over/under on total goals.

2. Claim Appealing Bonuses

World Cup 2022 betting sites will offer a wide range of appealing bonuses during the tournament, as they are scrapping it out for market share among soccer fans. You can boost your bankroll by claiming appealing bonuses. The most attractive deals do not tie you down to high rollover requirements.

3. Seek Out Expert Picks

Look out for expert World Cup betting predictions from established handicappers – known as tipsters in some countries – with proven track records. In the United States, these predictions are referred to as picks, whereas they are known as tips in many other countries. Look for tips, but make sure you also conduct your own research to ensure you agree with them.

4. Back European and South American Teams

No team outside of Europe and South America has ever come close to winning the World Cup. It may be tempting to bet on the USA, Canada, Ghana or Japan, but the chances of them going all the way are very slim. Save your money and bet on European and South American heavyweights to advance in the competition. For example, Portugal to reach the quarter-finals looks very appealing.

5. Hedge Your Bets

You can earn a guaranteed profit in certain circumstances by hedging your bets. For example, let’s say you bet $100 on France to win the World Cup at +700 and they reach the final against Brazil. If Brazil are priced at +110 to win the World Cup at that point, you can bet $480.95 on Brazil to win and earn a $319.05 bet regardless of whether Brazil or France lift the trophy.

The Best Payment Methods for World Cup Betting

There are three main banking methods used to fund a 2022 World Cup betting account:

Crypto Betting Options

This is generally the best option for funding a World Cup betting site, as it is quick, secure and reliable. Crypto allows you to send direct wallet-to-wallet transactions to a sportsbook. Some allow you to bet in your chosen cryptocurrency, whereas others – such as BetOnline and BetUS – will convert the crypto to your home currency, such as USD or CAD, so you do not need to worry about price fluctuations.

The gas fees on the Bitcoin and Ethereum networks can be high at certain times, so most sportsbooks accept a range of altcoins operating on different networks. Smaller coins such as Litecoin work well, as they have tiny fees per transaction, and they are very quick.

eWallet Betting Options

Many sportsbooks accept payments via eWallets such as PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, MuchBetter or ecoPayz. The list of available eWallets will depend on where you are based. They are useful, because they do not require you to type in card details online, and they are quick and efficient.

Traditional Payment Methods

Traditional payment methods at World Cup betting sites include debit cards, credit cards, bank transfers, wire transfers and prepaid cards. Most sites accept cards such as Visa and MasterCard. The list of payment methods will be clearly displayed in the cashier section of the site, with minimum and maximum payment amounts also specified.

Best World Cup Betting Apps & Mobile Sites

Betting on the World Cup via a mobile app is quick and very convenient. It is especially useful for live betting, when you need to react quickly to developments on the pitch. Just pick your phone up, quickly log into your account and you will find the World Cup betting section prominently displayed. Tap your screen a few times, and you can place your bet.

The sportsbooks we have featured do not offer native mobile apps on the App Store or Google Play, as they are international operators covering multiple countries and jurisdictions. However, they do provide slick, mobile-optimized betting sites, which behave just like mobile apps. You can access them from your mobile browser, and they do not take up any storage space, giving you the best of both worlds.

What are the 2022 World Cup Groups?

The 32 World Cup teams have been divided into eight groups of four. In each group, the winner and the runner-up will advance to the knockout stage of the competition, and the other teams will be eliminated. These are the eight groups:

  • Group A: Qatar, Netherlands, Ecuador, Senegal

  • Group C: Argentina, Mexico, Poland, Saudi Arabia
  • Group D: France, Denmark, Tunisia, Australia
  • Group E: Spain, Germany, Japan, Costa Rica
